ACCESSORIES
At Weigh to Go, we weigh your caravan and tow vehicle and give you a comprehensive report. If your set up needs fine tuning or if your caravan is too heavy for your tow vehicle we will advise you on what steps can be taken to solve the problem and make sure your caravan and tow vehicle are safe to drive on the open road.
Our team at weigh to go have a special workshop where they fit accessories to caravans and tow vehicles which help to ensure they are made safe and road legal. Here are some of the many accessories that we fit:
TOW BARS
WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION HITCH
A weight distribution hitch distributes the weight of your caravan or trailer so there is less weight on the tow ball. It works by using adjustable spring bars and tension to distribute the load of the trailer tongue to the trailer and vehicle axles.
Fitting a weigh distribution bar not only adds safety by stabilising the weight across you tow vehicle, it can help ensure your set up meets the required manufacturers standards, which means you are road legal.
At Weigh to Go, we can advise you on whether you need a Weight Distribution Bar fitted and which brand would best suit your tow vehicle.
AIR BAG LOAD ASSIST
Airbag Load assist involves fitting airbags to the rear suspension of the tow vehicle.
Airbag load assist is designed to resist the weight of the frame of the vehicle, pump air in to keep the two vehicles more level and reduce the weight on the tow ball. You can deflate the air bags when you are not towing your caravan which allows for a smoother ride
Adding an airbag, to the your tow vehicle can make the world of difference to your towing experience, by lifting the back of the tow vehicle, the weight moves back to the front axle, which means much better braking and handling. Airbag Assist can also help offset the wear and tear on your suspension, especially when driving off road.
At Weigh to Go, we can advise you on whether you need Airbag Load Assist and provide you a quotation to fit the airbags to your tow vehicle.
CARAVAN TOW VEHICLE MIRRORS
Extendable Tow Vehicle Mirrors are not only a good idea for anyone towing a caravan, they are also a legal requirement. In Australia, you can be fined up to £1,000 and get 3 penalty points for towing without proper towing mirrors.
To be compliant with the law, anyone towing a caravan must be able to see 20 metres behind them and four metres either side of the caravan or trailer. That means all vehicles that tow a caravan can’t rely on the Tow vehicles standard factory fitted mirrors. Almost all caravan tow vehicles will need additional towing mirrors that extend so you can see past the caravan or trailer.
At Weigh to Go, we sell and fit a range of caravan tow vehicle mirrors and we can advise you on the best options for your tow vehicle.
ELECTRIC BRAKE CONTROL
Electronic brakes are most commonly used on caravans and trailers and are a legal requirement on all caravans and trailers where the GTM (Gross Trailer Mass) is more than 2000kg. Electronic brakes on a caravan, need an electric brake control unit fitted to the tow vehicle.
Electric brakes on a caravan have a wire feed to the brake switch or brake light to activate and another wire to the trailer plug at the back of the car to activate the caravan brakes.
The caravan brake control system relies on a battery in the trailer to provide the power to operate the brakes once the trailer breaks away from the towing vehicle. So it makes sense that this battery be kept fully charged at all times.
At Weigh to Go, we sell and fit a full range of Electric Brake Control units and we can advise you on the best options for your make and model of tow vehicle.
BATTERY ISOLATOR
Battery isolators isolate your RV “house” batteries from your vehicle’s SLI (starting-lighting-ignition) battery. A battery isolator allows your house batteries to charge up by drawing on your chassis or tow vehicle alternator. Both of these are essential if you are towing a caravan.
Installing a battery isolator helps to ensure that the starting battery has sufficient power to start the engine and recharge the batteries. If power is needed to be drawn from your caravan battery for your refrigerator or navigation lights, it could drain the battery. The battery isolator will ensure that if this happens it won’t drain your car’s battery and leave you stranded.
At Weigh to Go we sell and fit a Battery Isolators and we can advise you on the best options for your make and model of tow vehicle.
